Due to a snafu at the swim start(both an olympic & sprint were happening), we lost too much time and therefore did not place. For all its worth, I got a PR by breaking 18. Since its a team effort, that goes for naught.

We were the top male team. We had no name but I call us Surf and Turf. I was my first time doing an aquathon. It requires swim & run (no bike). Naturally, he did the swim (Surf), while I ran on the turf. The day was after a storm so the surf was rough & the wind was tough.This event was held by Aldo Virano's (a teammate from Niketown running team) new company.

Multirace.com duathlon 05 finale

Event: Multirace.com duathlon
Distance: Sprint
Category: relay
Date: 7/4/05
Team=Double Trouble
Teammates: bike=Ray

Throughout the series, first place was elusive;the best was 2nd. I decided to recruit our cyclist from the triathlon team to solve this problem. However, feeling this adjustment was not enough, my crafty dad came up with a scheme. He pulled himself off the team for the benefit of the team, (a true team player), despite my objections. He said that even in a weakened state, I'd be faster than him. This was true, since I got sick the day prior. This means I had to run twice (double duty). The race director assumed that the team that kept beating us, would do so this day, so he created a plaque for the top team of the day, while everyone else got the traditional medals. Our plan foiled his. This was the championship race and team Double Trouble won (a battle) for the first time ever this year. That team still won the war (series) and our team was the runner up in the series. At this event, I met Jollie, a great female cyclist to start next year.

I pulled two members from the marathon relay for the same reason: to participate in an inaugural event. It was moved from its original date of Sept 26 to now due to those hurricanes. Terry was not fast but was able to do what neither Rosa or I could- swim! He struggled with the cold water and for me, it was my first time riding 22 miles competitively! I struggled a bit with the wind, but helped to pull the team out of last place. The anchor maintained our position till the finish.

This was a reverse triathlon and the season finale. We were the top co-ed team, both in the battle (race) and the war (series)! We did so convincingly, as we were undefeated, like the '72 Miami Dolphins! As the team captain, I was not only proud, but decided to retire the relay team name, meaning I had no plans on using that again, unless I had the same team members. Sadly, this was our last event together. They decided not to remain in contact with me.

We were the third co-ed team. Unfortunately, the owners of Multirace.com (event managing & timing, including this one) put together a relay team & took the division. He selected a top female swimmer to start. He himself is a supurb cyclist and together built up an insurmountable lead. Even though I smoked his wife's performance, the best that I could do was cut down the deficit to 7 minutes. Despite that, we were still the leaders in the series.

Keno Bros

The Keno Bros, Brian & Jeff, own a jewelry store and were title sponsors of multisports. This was my first triathlon with this organization. I joined Hector's friend & rival Leonor to do this event. E.S.M.

Exclusive Sports Marketing, held a 5k & a sprint triathlon. I did the 5k walk, now defunct, due to the knee injury I incurred while at play. I won the event then prepared to do my 2nd triathlon relay, 1st with this company. It is often known as the Publix triathlon series, because of the title sponsor. The course was not usual. It was half sand & half boardwalk for the run portion. There was a 'friendly' competition between Hector's team (Orca) and his amiga, Leonor with team trinity. Unfortunately, with my poor record keeping & memory, I can't remember the names of the swimmers, nor their runner but do remember the outcome vividly. I remember that both their swimmer & cyclist (Leonor) were faster, allowing their runner about a 3 minute head start. Oh, I did forget to say that she selected an NCAA swim champion and a former Olympic Cuban runner as teammates? Intimidating yes, but she forgot-my name is Jasper! She was laughing as she prematurely declared victory in front of Hector & I. She was so happy she finally was gonna beat him; apparently, they have competed frequently & she has never won. Once my turn came, I put on my game face and took off. However, unbeknownst to anyone, I had a plan. My strategy was to go up (north in the sand) at a moderate pace, then return (south on the boardwalk) at full speed. To the dismay of the runner, I got past him just prior to the turn around. As I approached the finish line, her jaw dropped. Hector said he wished I could have seen the expression on her face. No one could believe that the large deficit could be overcome and worse, it was not just by mere seconds. She had lost yet another one, while I got my first experience of placing on top with a triathlon relay team.

Inaugural relay

The date-August 24, 2003. It was not only an anniversary for hurricane Andrew but better, this was my first entry into triathlon. Since I am aquatically challenged, I took the advice of a fellow employee and triathlete and entered into a relay. Naturally, I did what I do best-run! The event was the Key Biscayne triathlon trilogy. I was referred to Hector, the cyclist. He had picked a swimmer named Judy. They had been getting by with just two members, none of them were strong in the run, at that time. They were elated to have me jump aboard on the last of the 3 events. He made it sound as if they were in danger of either losing or being in 3rd for the series. We got second that day, but gained enough points to win the series! They were so happy, they gave me the 1st place series medal in addition to the 2nd place one that we earned as a team. I was honored because I didn't even do the 1st two with them. The time was 53:03. Format: ¼ mile, 10 mile, 5k
